Lot 781 : D'Argento/The Banana Stand (NZ)
One of the 11 Gr.1 winners sired by the superstar So You Think, the popular grey D'Argento was seen at his best taking out the Gr.1 Rosehill Guineas; a Classic contest also taken out by the likes of Castelvecchio, The Autumn Sun and Dundeel... no doubt it is a stallion's race!
Things are looking good for D'Argento with his first stakes winner Statuario being one of the most exciting middle distance three-year-olds in the country.
Boasting a cross of the legendary Sadler's Wells, this colt is also line-bred to the famed matriarchs Special, Flaming Page and Natalma.
And he hails from an excellent family with his stakes winning grandam Tawny Run (dam of the Gr.3 galloper Karalino) being a granddaughter of the Gr.3 mare Tessuti whose dual Gr.3 winning half-sister Zephyr Souba produced the outstanding gallopers Naturalism (three Gr.1 wins and an oh so brave second in the Japan Cup) and Crystal Palace (Gr.1 Queensland Oaks).
His dam is by the W.S Cox Plate hero Savabeel, not only a Champion Sire many times over but a terrific broodmare sire influence with his daughters producing 35 stakes winners including seven Gr.1 horses. |
